Women’s Giving Circle Provides Grants to Seven Local Nonprofit Organizations

December 2, 2020

Morgantown, WV – The Women’s Giving Circle of North Central West Virginia (WGC), a component fund of Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF), proudly announces its sixth annual community grants to support women and girls in North Central West Virginia.

Awards were presented to seven local charitable organizations:  Girls on the Run of North Central West Virginia, Inc.; Libera, Inc.; Monongalia County 4-H (WVU Extension/WVU Foundation); Mountaineer Area RoboticS (MARS); Pantry Plus More, Inc.; SHIELD Task Force, Inc.; and West Virginia Botanic Garden, Inc.

The WGC makes grants to nonprofit organizations in North Central West Virginia addressing one or more of the following need areas:  1) increasing life skills of women and girls through education, economic empowerment, physical and mental health, and strategies for prevention of violence and crime; 2) encouraging the healthy development of girls; or 3) promoting gender equity in our community.

This year’s grants total over $17,000, and the awards range from $1,300 to $3,000. The WGC has gifted over $85,000 since its inception in 2014.

“Though 2020 has been a challenging year, the Women’s Giving Circle grantees were able to look outside the box and create innovative programming for women and girls in North Central WV,” said Janet Scarcelli, chairwoman of the WGC. “Our members are excited to continue our mission and look forward to the 2021 grants and our partnership with each of these amazing organizations.”

The WGC encourages new membership throughout the year and extends a special invitation in April to the WGC Annual Membership Soiree, date/time TBD. All women in the community are invited to come, learn, and join regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity. For more information, visit the WGC website: www.womensgivingcircleofncwv.org.
