YCF Accepting Scholarship Applications for 2024-25 Academic Year: Due March 5, 2024

January 18, 2024

Morgantown, WV – Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) is accepting scholarship applications for the 2024-25 academic year. YCF oversees over 40 diverse scholarship funds primarily to benefit students in North Central West Virginia. Some scholarships are designated for graduating seniors of specified schools or those who reside in particular counties. Others are awarded for athletics or specific fields of study such as art, veterinary medicine, or engineering. While the majority of YCF scholarships are for graduating high school seniors, some are available for those currently enrolled in college.

These new scholarships are available for the first time in 2024:

  • Demetry Walker Memorial Scholarship – Provides an approximate $1,000 award to a West Virginia resident enrolled in an educational community program (community college, associate degree program, vocational school, etc.) leading to a professional certification in nursing or other caregiving fields. Must demonstrate financial need. Priority is given to minority LGBTQ students.
  • Nathan Cunningham Memorial Scholarship – Provides an approximate $1,000 scholarship for graduating seniors of Doddridge County High School.  Recipients must be enrolled in a post-secondary degree program at any vocational, technical, 2-year, or 4-year institution in West Virginia. Applicants are required to submit an essay reflecting on a time they felt most alive.

Prospective applicants may review all YCF scholarship descriptions and requirements at https://ycfwv.org/scholarships/.

Interested students will complete a universal online application that matches them with eligible scholarship opportunities. Each scholarship opportunity requires an essay and at least one recommendation. Many require demonstration of financial need. If applying for a need-based scholarship, students will be asked to upload a copy of their FAFSA Submission Summary or the confirmation email that shows the estimated Student Aid Index (SAI).

Applications are due March 5, 2024, and recipients will be announced in May.

“YCF appreciates the opportunity to connect deserving students with scholarship awards made possible by many generous donors,” said YCF President, Patty Showers Ryan.  “For the 2023-24 academic year, YCF awarded $236,850 in scholarships to 80 students across North Central West Virginia.”
