March 25, 2021

Morgantown, WV – Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) announced its 10th anniversary as a community foundation serving the five-county region of Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston and Taylor counties.

On January 19, 2011, two charitable, nonprofit foundations, the Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia (CFNCWV) and the Greater Morgantown Community Trust (GMCT) merged into a larger, more effective organization named Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia (YCF).

Since its inception in 2011, YCF’s assets have grown significantly from $6.6 million in 2011 to $18.4 million in 2020.  The organization has awarded approximately $9.5 million in grants and scholarships over the past 10 years.

“We celebrate this important milestone as YCF continues to grow,” said Patty Showers Ryan, YCF President.  “There are nearly 800 community foundations nationwide, yet many are not aware of the vast charitable work YCF offers this community.  Our anniversary allows us the opportunity to inform the community of our mission while acknowledging the donors and hundreds of volunteers who have helped make YCF a success.”

As a community foundation, YCF is a publicly funded nonprofit that supports North Central West Virginia.  YCF currently manages 150 diverse funds that meet both the donor and community needs.  YCF helps individuals, families, businesses and non-profit organizations achieve their charitable and financial goals by providing tools and resources to make giving easy, flexible and effective.

Governor Jim Justice recognized YCF’s 10th Anniversary with an official greeting, “This foundation is an incredible asset to the Mountain State and beyond.  Through community support, YCF works toward developing, promoting, and coordinating charitable donations that give back and benefit the local communities.”

In 2020, YCF awarded more than $869,000 in grants and scholarships. Additionally, to address the impacts of COVID-19, it made 72 COVID-19 relief grants to local nonprofits totaling more than $150,000 through the Emergency Impact Fund. Those grants focused on needs related to food, shelter and safety.

“As we celebrate this 10th Anniversary, we are grateful for donors who allow us to assist qualified people, programs and projects that strengthen our North Central West Virginia region. We look forward to continuing our work to support charitable giving in our community,” shared Martin Howe, YCF Board Chair.

YCF’s mission is to promote philanthropy and build endowment funds to benefit our communities. Through financial resources, YCF extends many forms of assistance to qualified people, programs and projects. Primarily serving North Central West Virginia, YCF’s underlying goal is always to enhance the quality of life for those the organization serves.
