YCF Joins Take 5 to Give 5 Statewide Giving Day on May 5

May 2, 2020

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) has joined Philanthropy West Virginia members to meet the urgent needs of nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic with the Take 5 to Give 5 matching fund campaign on Tuesday, May 5.

The 24-hour giving campaign encourages all West Virginians to take five minutes to make a financial contribution to nonprofit relief funds across 53 counties who are responding to their communities’ needs. The Matching Fund Sponsors include Toyota, West Virginia American Water, United Bank, Highmark Foundation, Bernard McDonough Foundation, and an anonymous donor who have pledged to match funds up to $0.50 for every $1 donated to the participating relief funds up to $250,000.

The initiative is part of #GivingTuesdayNow – a global day of giving on May 5, 2020. All funds contributed will be used locally in West Virginia communities to meet the demand for critical services such as hunger relief, medical care, senior services, children, general operating support for nonprofits, and more impacted by the crisis.

“From the moment this pandemic began, nonprofits and foundations across West Virginia have been working around the clock to ensure our communities have the resources needed to weather this storm,” said Patty Showers Ryan, YCF President. “Giving Tuesday Now is an opportunity to leverage donations with the statewide challenge fund.”

Philanthropy WV’s statewide goal is to raise at least $500,000 total across the state through 15 relief funds managed by participating community foundations and United Ways. Donations of $5,000, $500,
YCF’s mission is to promote philanthropy and build endowment funds to benefit our communities.

Donations of $5,000, $500, $50 or $5 from fellow citizens will support the work nonprofits are already doing in their communities. The relief funds are supporting a variety of causes and issues amplified during this pandemic. YCF’s Emergency Impact Fund for North Central West Virginia provides grants to nonprofits addressing the immediate impacts of COVID-19, focusing on needs related to food, shelter and safety. To date, over $58,000 in Emergency Impact Grants have been awarded to nonprofits throughout YCF’s five-county region: Marion, Harrison, Monongalia, Preston and Taylor Counties.

To continue making grant awards to address the impacts of COVID-19, YCF encourages additional donations to the Emergency Impact Fund. 100% of donations will be distributed directly to local nonprofits most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
