Job Squad, Inc., a private, nonprofit community rehabilitation program located in Bridgeport, has created a new endowment fund with Your Community Foundation (YCF) to help support the organization’s mission to provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The Job Squad Agency Endowment Fund will be managed by YCF, which will invest the initial funds and all future contributions to increase their value, with net earnings from these investments paid as yearly grants to the organization.
“We’re pleased to manage this endowment for Job Squad, an organization which does a lot of good work in the community finding work for disabled individuals,” said Beth Fuller, YCF president. “This is the kind of partnership we are seeking with other non-profit organizations throughout North Central West Virginia, and we encourage other such organizations to contact us to discuss establishing
endowment funds of their own.”
Brenda Hellwig, executive director of Job Squad, said her organization “is all about jobs. Our mission is to provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. By establishing this endowment fund with YCF, we hope to generate additional income to help support our efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in our region.”
Job Squad aspires to provide the psychological and economic benefits of employment and promote community awareness about the capabilities of individuals with disabilities, according to Peggy Allman, president of the Board of Directors.
“The dignity, responsibility and economic independence resulting from gainful employment is one of the most effective ways of enhancing self-reliance, changing attitudes, reducing dependency on public benefits and promoting community acceptance of people with disabilities,” she said.
Job Squad assists people with disabilities to discover their strengths, needs and interests and to participate in the competitive labor market. Through contracts with the federal and state government, Job Squad employs people with disabilities to provide presort mail, custodial and grounds maintenance services.
