Arts Grants Available for Monongalia County Nonprofits

May 4, 2022

Morgantown, WV – Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) and the Arts Council of Greater Morgantown (ACGM) announce the Organizational Arts Grant application is available through June 8, 2022.  This collaborative effort includes funding support from the Monongalia County Commission and the City of Morgantown, as well as private donors.

The Organizational Arts Grant program provides funding for nonprofit organizations with arts-related missions and/or projects in Monongalia County.  In 2021, more than $168,000 was allocated to recipients.  Theatre programming for children and adults, cultural exhibits, murals, music technology programming, and community art classes are just a few examples of the projects that were funded in 2021.

“The commitment our community has made to grow this program to more than $1.5M in arts programming and organizational advancement over almost 20 years is a model for the state of West Virginia.” said Arts Council Board Chair, Susan Riddle. “Programs like this are what help make Monongalia County and the City of Morgantown recognized certified arts communities by the West Virginia Division of Arts and Culture.”

The mission of the Organizational Arts Grant Program is to broaden base support for the arts, promote excellence in the arts, and ensure that cultural and arts organizations provide a variety of programs for our community.  The grant structure and criteria were developed by a committee of community volunteers, with representation from individual artists and arts organizations.

“Each year YCF receives many worthy arts grant requests, but resources are limited,” said YCF President, Patty Showers Ryan.  “Our goal is to increase funding for local nonprofit organizations while growing endowment funds for long term sustainability. Community members and businesses are encouraged to make a tax-deductible gift to support the arts.”
