February 8, 2021

Morgantown, WV – The EQT Foundation has once again partnered with Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) to offer $77,000 in scholarships for Marion County, WV high school seniors pursuing a degree in a field utilized by the oil and gas industry.

The EQT Scholarship was established by the EQT Foundation, the philanthropic division of EQT Corporation, the nation’s largest producer of natural gas, to recognize high-performing students residing in the areas served by the company.  The scholarship fund will award five $1,000 one-time scholarships and one renewable scholarship with an annual value of up to $18,000 (up to $72,000 over four years).

“The EQT Foundation strives to identify opportunities that impact the communities we serve in powerful ways,” stated Ellen Rossi, President, EQT Foundation. “And, what better way to shape the future than by supporting the education of tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.”

To be considered for the EQT Scholarship, applicants must be a graduating high school senior or an equivalent homeschooled resident of Marion County, WV pursuing either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a field that is utilized by the oil and gas industry (e.g., Computer Science or Information Technology; Civil, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering; Energy or Land Management; Environmental Science; Geology; Safety Science; or Welding).  Additionally, scholarship applicants must demonstrate excellence in the following areas: academic performance, community involvement, extra-curricular activities and leadership.

The EQT Scholarship is one of 40 diverse scholarship funds managed by YCF.  Last year, YCF scholarships provided over $250,000 in awards to 100 students across North Central West Virginia.  YCF scholarship recipients attend schools in our region and beyond, including Clemson University, Emory University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

“We are grateful the EQT Foundation has once again partnered with YCF to provide scholarships locally to students in Marion County,” shared Patty Showers Ryan, President of YCF.  “The EQT Foundation’s generosity will ease the financial hurdle many students face when interested in the oil and gas industry and considering next steps after high school.”

Applications are due Monday, March 8, 2021, by 11:59PM and may be accessed by visiting http://ycfwv.org/scholarships/.
