Grant applications are now being accepted for the Taylor County Charitable Interest Fund, an unrestricted endowment managed by the Taylor County Community Funds (TCCF).
Eligible to receive the grants of $500 or less are Taylor County organizations with 501(c)3 status, local units of government and tax-exempt or non-profit charitable organizations. Deadline for applications is July 18.
“This is the fourth year we will award grants to deserving organizations with the ultimate goal to improve the quality of life for citizens in the Taylor County community,” said Sally Harman, president of TCCF. “We encourage those who can qualify to submit a grant application this year.”
Applications are available through Your Community Foundation (YCF), P.O. Box 409, Morgantown, WV 26507 or under the “Community Grants” link on the web site at www.ycfwv.org. Applicants can download a grant application and a “Terms and Conditions” document from the web or contact YCF for copies.
TCCF was chartered in 2008 to support social, educational, economic and cultural programs and organizations for the benefit of Taylor County citizens. “We do that by seeking and accepting donations from current and former residents of Taylor County and from various businesses and organizations that want to help us meet the needs of the community,” Harman said. “The funds are invested to increase their value, with net income from those investments used to distribute our annual grants.”
TCCF operates as a part of YCF, a non-profit charitable organization formed in 2011 by the merger of the Greater Morgantown Community Trust and the Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia. YCF provides administrative and technical support, financial reporting and auditing services and marketing assistance, while TCCF operates with its own Board of Advisors that identifies, cultivates and assists prospective donors who want to contribute to its long-term endowment fund.
“Oversight of the fund is handled by our own Board of Advisors and all funds raised in Taylor County stay in Taylor County,” Harman said.
Interested donors can establish other types of funds with TCCF, including:
- Field of Interest Funds – The donor instructs TCCF to use available grant dollars in a general program area, such as health, youth services, education, the arts and many others, and TCCF selects the recipient.
- Donor Advised Funds – The donor recommends the specific purpose or organizations to receive the available grant dollars.
- Agency Endowment – Funds are created to benefit existing charitable agencies such as the United Way to improve their investment performance.
- Designated Funds – Funds are established by the donor to benefit a specific organization.
- Scholarships – The donor establishes an endowment to provide scholarship assistance to students.
Tax-deductible contributions in any amount can be made to Taylor County Community Funds at YCF, P.O. Box 409, Morgantown, WV 26507 or TCCF, 284 Hickory St, Grafton, WV 26354.Information about TCCF and YCF is available at www.ycfwv.org or by calling (304) 669-5052 or (304) 296-3433.
