Morgantown, WV – Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) is pleased to announce 110 scholarships totaling $327,000 have been awarded for the 2022-2023 academic year. Applications were evaluated by scholarship committees of more than 100 volunteers from across the North Central West Virginia region.
YCF currently manages over 40 scholarship funds. New scholarship endowment funds may be established with a minimum donation of $20,000, which donors may pledge over three years. The principal is invested, and the earnings provide scholarship dollars – forever. Donors may suggest award criteria, and the funds are often named in honor or memory of loved ones.
The Dorothy, Lewis, Anthony and Hilde Betonte Scholarship made its inaugural award this year. The scholarship serves to honor the Betonte family’s value for learning and their hope to encourage residents of Harrison County to pursue higher education. This fund provides an annual scholarship to a Harrison County resident pursuing post-secondary education at a trade or vocational school, or a two-year or traditional four-year college or university. The inaugural recipient is Chloe Shoemaker of Robert C. Byrd High School.
“We are grateful for the generosity of our donors, who help make higher education more accessible to the students in our community,” said YCF President Patty Showers Ryan. “We also extend gratitude to our scholarship committee volunteers who donate their time to review applications and recommend scholarship winners.”
